GOVERNMENT HOUSE

Last night, the Governor and his wife, Mrs Jan De Kretser, invited the participants and supporters of the Great Anzac Run to the beautiful grounds of Government House. With everyone on their best behaviour, shoes shined and uniforms looking splendid, the runners had a chance to speak with the Governor about their involvement in the run. We were all motivated by a warm, welcome speech from the Governor and an inspirational reply by Mr. Leon Levin who, so eloquently, encapsulated the essence of the run. We all left Government House with a fuller appreciation of the opportunities that the Great Anzac Run will bring to us all.

LIGHTHORSE MUSEUM

Some of the MFB runners and CBC students ventured down the appropriately named Monash Freeway to Nar Nar Goon to visit Bernie Dingle’s fabulous Lighthorse museum. Greeted with a friendly smile, a strongly brewed cuppa and homemade Anzac biscuits we all listened intently to Bernie’s wealth of knowledge about the Australian Lighthorse. The amazing memorabilia gave us extraordinary insight into the conditions faced by our forbearers. I am sure that Bernie will continue to be a bottomless well of information during our run and consolidate our knowledge of the people and places we visit along the way. There is a rumour going around that the nerves of his first flight may quieten Bernie down just a little, but many are doubting this! The run is getting closer and the excitement amongst all is building. Most of the runners are looking a picture of health and can’t wait until the run begins.

LEXUS CENTRE TRAINING

Training for the run and meeting the firemen has begun with a training session at the Lexus Centre. The CBC students were able to train under Collingwood’s fitness advisor, David Buttifant who gave them a lecture on nutrition and preparation. The boys experienced the high altitude training room and the magnificent facilities available to the Collingwood and AIS athletes. Collingwood coach, Mick Malthouse gave an inspiring motivational speech to those attending the run.
