Catherine Freeman Foundation

The Catherine Freeman Foundation works with agencies, community organizations, schools and other philanthropic groups to provide opportunities and environments which encourage disadvantaged individuals and communities to achieve positive change. The Foundation has a particular interest in using sport, the arts and community economic development as pathways to greater opportunities. Catherine has traveled extensively throughout Australia and has seen first hand that many communities and individuals lack the opportunity which would enable them to also reach their potential. Community Spirit is the first of these charitable organizations which the Foundation will establish. Community Spirit will work with communities which have or have had a high rate of harmful behaviors. It aims to develop programs that help address these issues and strengthen the community. The programs will work hand in hand with these communities to prevent the causes and implement a range of strategies to create a more positive environment and greater opportunity. The Catherine Freeman Foundation aims to raise funds through corporate and private donations and through high profile fundraising events to bring these projects to fruition. Funds and grants raised will be distributed to eligible charities for flagship projects.

Shrine of Remembrance Foundation

The Shrine of Remembrance Foundation exists to ensure the ongoing delivery of services and programs that honor the great contribution of veterans to the nation, and that this place of grieving and reflection will have as much meaning to us and our children as it did to our forefathers, and that the personal qualities and values for which Australian service men and women became world renowned are carried forth by citizens of the future. The Shrine of Remembrance was dedicated in 1934 to the 114,000 Victorians who served, and the 19,000 who died, in the First World War. It symbolizes the ideal of nationhood of the ANZAC legend and is a permanent and lasting memorial to the ANZAC spirit. The Shrine of Remembrance is Victoria’s largest and most visited war memorial and, as perhaps, Melbourne’s most recognized landmark, it receives more than 1000 visitors per day and is host to more than 120 ceremonies that are held at the Shrine annually.

Education Project

We aim to gain the support of the Victorian Department of Education to involve schools and their pupils in our project, and inform them of its cause, its purpose and its history. This education component aims to contribute to the knowledge base of our youth through activities, such as school visits from fire-fighters and representatives of the MFB, and other learning tools, such as the dynamic and interactive website which maps the course and tracks the progress of the run.
